What is a PGWP?

The Canadian Experience Class allows students who applied for a PGWP to qualify for Permanent Residency (PR) and then Citizenship.
The student visa to PR pathway via the PGWP program is the most efficient method in ensuring your residency status as long as you finish your degree successfully and find a job that offers related experience.

How to Be Eligible for a PGWP Program?
For you to qualify, you need to enroll in an eligible course offered by a DLI listed college or university. Doing so will allow you to apply for the PGWP program after finishing your studies.

Each school has unique programs. However, you’ll find that most of the PGWP eligible courses that may allow you to study outside Canada are Masters and Diploma levels. Here are some schools and areas of studies worth looking at:

How Long Is a Post-Graduation Work Permit Valid?
A Post-Graduation Work Permit can be either be 8 months to 2 years, 2 years or more, but not greater than 3 years. The length depends on the study period.
You cannot be eligible for the PGWP program if your study period is 8 months or less. But, you can take a combination program that is both PGWP eligible, with a duration of at least 8 months for each.
How Long Can You Do Outside Canada Studies?
If you have already been studying outside Canada since spring 2020, you can safely count that toward the length of the PGWP. If you’re still planning to start your Canadian studies, enroll for the January 2022 intake, study outside Canada online until August 31, 2022, and still count that toward the length of the PGWP.
Flexible programs can be delivered through hybrid learning. A few semesters can be taken online while the rest require the physical presence of the student. However, there are also pure online programs that might affect your PGWP eligibility.
